PSYCH 2AA3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 13: Egocentrism, Hidden Place, Third Eye
Document Summary
Egocentrism (aka lack of theory of mind) Concrete operational stage (ages 7-11 years: operations involves things like the rules for math, schemes that act as umbrellas that help us access a problem in an efficient way, accomplishments, mental operations. They have an overall logic system that helps them to solve problems and to reason like they can use to do things like arithmetic in their head: decentering. Ability to focus on more than one part of the problem at a time. They understand that if you do something superficial to an object, you are able to reverse it. They know that (in the case of the chip task) if you moved the chips back to the original position that everything would look exactly the same. They can only focus on what"s possible and real to them: poor systematic (mental) problem solving so they use trial and error to solve problems.
