You can differentiate between different sounds, but you are also affected by what your environment is. As a baby you are biologically prepared intervention. As a child you are reined by input. Scientist like to manipulate independent variables, but you cannot do that with making a study on birth order. A limitation is that everything has to be correlation, and it does not always apply for this experiment. High restraint able to delay the initial reward. Researchers tracked the subjects 40 years later, and it predicted further life outcomes. Subject in the high restraint performed better in academic outcomes, higher sat scores as adults. Those of the low restraint group tended to have negative outcomes, greater incidences in health, drug use, divorce. Habituation being shown the same stimulus over and over. (infants would get bored, their attention is captured by novelty)
