We are experts at pattern recognition and draw deep mean from processing faces. You can go back and forth deciding on what is the background and foreground. Perceptual constancies: same colour in different context, you still perceive it as having a constant colour. Light can be ambiguous enough to interpret things differently, like the blue and black dress phenomenon. 1976 mars probe, they came across the image with a face on mars. The view from the satelite from a certain angle just looked like a face: humans whenever a situation with a face like pattern, no matter how ambiguous we will see a face. Pop out effect: grouping like objects together that belong together. You can react appropriately to identifying a predator. Faces elicit emotional reactions that guide our behaviours. Pareidolia people capture scenes, natural scenes in objects that see faces. Other people get very excited and attribute features to it.
