PSYCH 1XX3 Lecture Notes - Lecture 7: Chromate And Dichromate, Ganglion, Tetrachromacy
Document Summary
We have a bias view of the world because of our perception. Everything we see is not actually completely clear. The movement of our eyes gives us the illusion and allows us to see accurately. Only so much that we can pay attention to at a given time (similar to attention) The visible spectrum is the electromagnetic energy that we can detect and perceive as colour. Infrared: we do not see them but we perceive them as heat. There are organisms that receive visual stimuli from infrared waves (eg. rattlesnake) Infrared goggles can be worn by people, which allow them to sometimes see heat signatures after they have left a space. Bias: colours round you are just in your head. Colour information is important because it helps with pray and predator relationship. Foraging hypothesis: has a good argument for colour perception. The marmoset: one is a dichromate and one is a trichromate allow direct comparison of why colour is important.
