Document Summary

1/3 of brain devoted to processing visual information. Visual sense: see with brain, eye is instrument to collect, focus and sense light stimulus, heavy duty processing occurs in brain. John rendered blind by an occipital lobe stroke at age 30: unable to perceive visual world, struggles to maintain independence. John has little difficulty navigating way through home: has no perception of vision. The stimulus light: eye, instrument that detects light stimulus, takes care of initial stages of processing, sends result to brain for further processing. Light travels as wave: amplitude height of each wave. Greater amplitude of light wave, the more light is being reflected or emitted by that object. Object appears brighter/more intense to us: wavelength distance between the peaks of successive waves. Smaller wavelengths refer to light waves with a higher frequency less distance between successive peaks. Larger wavelengths light waves with a lower frequency.
