When twins are adopted apart efforts are typically made to make environments as similar as possible(cid:224)therefore, messing up the raised apart : selective placement: increases similarity of twins and assumes it is genetic when it may not be, parents of fraternal twins tend to emphasize their individuality, parents of identical twins tend to create identical environments for each of them (cid:224)the first problem makes us underestimate the role of genes (cid:224)the second problem makes us overestimate the role of genes. But: issues: twin mis tying: twins (fraternal) may be classified as identical, selective placement: adopted twins assumed to have different environments but sometimes much similarity (place kids with parents similar to birth parents age, iq etc, assimilation: parents may treat identical twins more similarly than fraternal, assortive mating: we tend to mate with people similar to us genetic similarity may be higher than 50%
