Unit 1: intro to neural control of behaviour. Makes personality, perceptions, memories typical cortical neuron can have 1 to 10k connections w/ other neurons. His dualist framework : mind is a separate entity existing outside of our biology, yet in ctrl of actions and thoughts, brain connects mind and body. Neuroscience can be studied alongside psychology at multiple levels. Study begins with exploring the function of the neuron (fundamental building block of ns) Receptive zone: receives signals from other neurons; made of dendrites branching from cell body. Transmission zone: passes on signals to other cells; made of axon and terminal ends. The receptive zone receives and relays signals down the axon. Dendrites reach out to other neurons & receive signals to be relayed through dendritic branch to cell body. Cell body will convey some signals down axon. Information passed down the axon reaches the transmission zone.
