PSYCH 1XX3 Lecture 9: Vision Module
Document Summary
With nearly 1/3 of the brain devoted to processing visual information. Eye is an instrument to collect focus. The visual system, processes, and interprets visual information. Eyes process light to visualize the world. Amplitude is an indication of perceived brightness. Wavelength is an indication of perceived colour. Purity is an indication of colour saturation. Natural light is a desaturated combination of many wavelengths. Light first passes through the curved cornea: begins focusing the light. The cornea is a transparent window at the front of the eye. After the cornea, light passes through the pupil: which is the round window that you see as a black dot in the middle of your eye. The iris (colour part) controls the size of the pupil. After passing through the pupil, light passes through the lens: a transparent structure that does the final focusing of light onto the retina at the back of the eye.
