PSYCH 1X03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Sunk Costs, Group Cohesiveness, Social Learning Theory
Document Summary
Cyclists ride faster in groups than individually. The can been observed in children performing tasks even when there is no explicit reward or competition ( winding a fishing rod as fast as they could) Co - actor- another individual performing the same task. Audience- group of people watching an individual perform a task. Social facilitation- increased performance that occurs in the presence of coaches or an audience. *in some cases the presence of co actors hinders performance. We learn appropriate behaviours by modelling and imitating the behaviour of others. Different from basic conditioning because the behaviours you learn from others do not always require explicit reinforcement to develop. Bobo doll experiment: children 3 to 5 were placed in a room with toys to play with and an adult. The adult would show aggressive or passive behaviour to the bobo doll. Aggressive behaviour included yelling and punching , hitting with toy mallet.
