PSYCH 1X03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Representativeness Heuristic, Problem Solving, Functional Fixedness
Document Summary
Edward borings def- whatever intelligence tests measure . Problem solving is a reliable indicator of intelligence. Deductive reasoning- work from ideas and general information to a specific conclusion. Insight problems test our ability to think outside the box. Functional fixedness- our difficulty seeing alternative uses for common objects. The quality of a test depends on its reliability ( produces the same result in the same person takes it multiple times) and validity ( actually measures the trait it"s supposed to be measuring) Galton- measured how quickly people reacted to sensory motor tasks,e equated faster reaction times with higher intelligence. Binet developed the first intelligence test for children- asked a set of questions that were assumed to have to do with reasoning. Modified and renamed the stanford- binet intelligence test. Spearmen believed there was a single type of intelligence, wich he names g ( also believed only people with a certain number of g should be able to vote or reproduce)
