Document Summary
Unconscious reflexive learning is vital to the survival of a species. Two types of unconscious learning: classical conditioning( connect two related events) and instrumental conditioning ( actions and consequences) Groundwork on classical conditioning was done by ivan pavlov. He noticed dogs would begin to salivate even before their food had arrived. In his experiments, the sound of a metronome signaled to a dog food was about to be delivered, after this training, dogs would begin to salivate to the sound of a metronome. This was called a conditional reflex as it was conditional upon training. Contingencies- when one stimulus reliably predicts the presentation of another. Contingencies are usually preparatory in nature and promote survival. Ex. salvicating when seeing a lemon, we have learned to pucker our mouths and produce saliva to neutralize citric acid based on our past experiences with lemons. Ex. antelopes flee ath many cues that could mean the presence of a predator.
