Power is the capacity to overcome resistance and make decisions in the face of opposition. The most important institution concerned with the administration of power is the state hence politics is the struggle to control the state and the institutions that compromise it. Political science is the study of the unforeseen, unexpected, as in unconscious or premeditated, results of human and social actions. What all these labels about the developing world have in common is that they are born out of a comparison: they describe not what these societies are, but that which they are not.
