Last class, talk about what is democracy and compared direct democracy (athens) and our indirect democracy (usa/canada) Direct democracy means rules made by people and decisions taken by the people. Indirect democracy intermediary people that make rules represented by people, people not always represented fairly and given chance to make their own decisions. Democracy didn"t stop evolving with the american revolution. Most common trend we can talk about is the extension of the franchise. When democracy started out in countries it was not democracy. Wasn"t until maybe mid-20th century that democracy started to come (because different classes of people weren"t allowed to vote) thought that the majority of poor would try to vote out the rich. In 1800 in britain because of property quali cations and regulations only 3% of adults can vote. 3,200,000 canada population in 1867 for rst vote, only 11% voted. Almost everyone in canada can vote>two restrictions (age and citizenship status)
