Constitutional lens: constitution outlines who is allowed to do what, constitution act 1867, areas of jurisdiction, outlines what provinces and federal government allowed to do. Federal government not allowed to take action in 16 certain areas (ex: hospitals, public land, civil rights, local or private nature in province: constitution are modified, formal amendments: modified bounds of power, didn"t empower provinces that much. Interstate federalism: treating every province as its own state. Intrastate federalism: takes provincial considerations into account by bringing them inside their own institutions. Federalism through a social/economic/linguistic lens: differences federalism was created to give voice to, underlying social differences, ontario: regulation 17, restricted french learning, catholic education vs french education. Internal dynamic: quiet revolution, political culture, change in values/beliefs of province, quebec becomes more secular, catholic church less significant, dynamic outward oriented assertive political culture coming from quiet revolution. Limits with economy, was dominated by english capital.
