When the sample does not represent the desired population some members of the population are more likely to be included in the sample than others, which is unfair. Try to make the sample as detailed as possible. Nonresponse bias: people who fill out your survey might be intrinsically different than people who choose not to fill out the survey. Different from: group research, qualitative research, case studies. Focuses on individuals more than groups: group research involves multiple participants in analysis, single subject research focuses on one at a time. Phineas gage, patient hm, etc. : participant is a unique case. Disadvantages: can"t make definitive conclusions from case studies. There is no evidence that any of this is real: the case study gives no experimental evidence for the memory repression being the cause of the phobia and its recall being the cause of her improvement.
