Can see the iv affects the dv in the same way across different types of people, and situations: theory testing- tells us the limits of our findings through moderating variables. Moderator- a variable that influences the nature of the relationship between two other variables (an independent variable and a dependent variable). In a factorial design, the effect of the moderator variable is revealed as an interaction. Independent variable by participant variable- not a true experiment because participant variables cannot be controlled or randomly assigned.
