Cons: must code and put response items into mutually exclusive categories, a difficult task. This is qualitative data that needs to be placed on a nominal scale - some responses may be off-topic which is undesirable mutually exclusive categories respondents are given options and they must choose an answer. Choice when respondents are given multiple options to select their answer from. Closed to participants opinions. single response (similar to forced choice) check all that apply ranking scale (least to most important) problem: some participants don"t have their desired answer so their answer doesn"t reflect how they actually feel. Choice forcing respondent to select one of two or more options to determine their main priority, although they may not completely agree with the option political poll which candidate would you vote for.
