Document Summary
Modern medical world concerned w giving inds as much control over their lives as possible. Paternalistic model doctor is in charge of you: assures physician can know what is best for the patient. Sometimes action is appropriate in some circumstances but not in general. In ethics we don"t usually look @ specific but rather generalized policy. Paternalistic model lacks a policy don"t use. Informative model & consequentialist: physicians should demonstrate care to respect, not just be a source of info (bold interaction) Patient may not be able to say what they need: by refusing to engage w patient personally it may lead to harm being done to person, give them too much responsibility. Interpretative model and autonomy issue: puts too much pressure on doctors, busy inds who don"t necessarily know for to interact w patient therapeutically too busy, conquentialist way of thinking (loosely utilitarianism)
