Idea that the society is made up in such a way that some groups have an underdeveloped situation and they suffer more than others. Ex: mlk not only fighted cultural violence but also structural violence (minorities of colored people were attacked for their structural rights in society) The cause and effect of structural violence = poverty. We must promote economic development to get to the root of the problem. Every day, 4000 people (90% in poor countries) die because of violence. In areas with the highest rates of violence, we also see: the highest population densities lowest education attainment: highest unemployment, poorest housing highest incidence of hiv, tb, malaria and gastroenteritis. In order to address these high rates of issues, based on statistics of other things, we must promote development. Who thinks the best way to promote peace is by promoting health and eradicating violence.
