Almost 6% of burn injury pt"s die & those who sustained smoke inhalation injury are at greater risk of dying. The most common type of burn injury is thermal; for canadian children it"s scalds w/ almost half of burns in children being caused by hot liquids and vapours. Aren"t classified as 1st, 2nd, or 3rd degree but by depth of tissue injury: superficial, partial, and full- thickness. 4th degree is still used to describe the most severe burns extending into the muscle, bone or joints.
