Main hormonal feedback pathway for reproductive system. Os: opening from the uterus through the cervix into vagina. Can measure dilation of os to monitor progress of labour. Can be used as measurement point for monitoring growth of fetus (symphysis-fundal height) After delivery, palpated to monitor resolution phase. Infertility: failure to achieve pregnancy after 1-year unprotected intercourse. Note if female partner >35yrs interval shortened to 6 months. Small catheter passed into uterus via vagina & cervix so semen may be instilled directly into uterus. Ova and semen collected and mixed together to allow fertilization. After 3-5 days later 1-2 growing embryos are returned to uterus. Remaining fertilized ova can be frozen for future attempts. Prenatal: period of time from conception to birth of infant. Postnatal: period of time from delivery of infant until complete resolution of body to pre-pregnant state (6-8 weeks) Parity: number of deliveries women has had over 20 wks gestation.
