Pre-verbal (client can be any age) haven"t learned how to think yet. 2 perspectives (both how mt works with client working on speech) developmental theory & interactional theory. Developmental theory clear connection btwn early musical ability and pre-verbal development infants/parents communicate by means of sound/movement/turn taking and affective attunement. Response evoking techniques imitation turn-taking (in improvising, helps speech development, dialoguing) pausing/freezing expectation variation on a theme. In ontario, there is an estimated 70k indivs with asd. 4x more prevalent in males yet most of the public, including many professionals in the medical, education and vocational fields, are still unaware of how autism affects people and how they can effectively work with indivs with autism. Asd is one of the most common developmental disabilities. A single specific cause of autism is not known, current research links autism to biological or neurological differences in the brain.
