Diegesis: the world of the narrative. All characters, events, etc depicted, suggested or described. Diegetic music: music whose source is within the diegesis. Any music that emanates from the film: heard both by characters within the narrative and the film audience. It can take on all sorts of possible guises, it could be someone turning the radio, playing. Cd, dvd, mp3 player, a band in the bar, someone singing in the shower, someone playing guitar in the subway: also known as source music , direct music, or foreground music . If music has identified source (like above) the industry term that will be used is source music music that actually comes from the world of film.
