Is a genre that combines two of the nineteenth century"s musical pleasures: grand orchestral music and virtuoso showmanship. Concertos have been written for virtually every instrument, from accordion to zither, as well as for two or more instruments. Felix mendelssohn was born into a distinguished german- Jewish family known for its intellectual and artistic accomplishments. The mendelssohns suffered from the social and legal discrimination against jews in germany, felix"s parents decided to convert to. Christianity for the sake of their children and appended the christian surname bartholdy, and he signed his name as felix mendelssohn. Semitism plagued the composer throughout his life and continued to haunt his name after death. Mendelssohn became a fluent and dazzling pianist before turning 10. In his early teens he wrote symphonies, concertos and chamber works of high quality. By 1830s, he was internationally known as a composer, pianist and conductor. Jeanrenaud an amateur painter with whom he had 5 children.
