Document Summary
Copyright: bundle of rights that come into existence automatically when you create something. Used to only exist when something was claimed and proved you created it first. Bundle of rights: mostly transferrable can make a deal and sell them to someone else. License: gives permission on the basis of those rights. Possible to sell the whole bundle of rights to them, but more likely to license. Expires: 50 years after the death of the creator. Copyright by definition something you can transfer and sell. No central record keeping of these assignments. When you have a strong copyright regime, there"s a conflict of interest. Cultural goods that could be of use to users. Not a lot happens when people break these laws day to day unless it"s something huge. Difficulty has always been there; direct consequence of adoption of binary code used to be a limit of how much copyright you could do (not as much enforcement needed)
