Need a very extensive psychological exam to see if ppl can manage (get over the fact that it isn"t your hand) The controversy occurs when the limb is not simply reattached but is transplanted from 1 person to another. Need to be given anti-rejection medication, immunosuppressive therapy for your entire life. Immunosuppressant drugs given to limb transplant patients greatly lower the body"s immune system. Greater risk of cancer, infections, & other disorders. Must also follow a strict regime of physical exercise to retain limb. Function never reaches level of being born with it. Surgeries differ from transplants - temporarily transplanted to house & grow the fetus. Surgically remove the womb once the fetus is removed. Anti-rejection meds only given during pregnancy - no harm to fetus, proven by pregnant women that had kidney transplants - taken off the meds when baby is born.
