MEDRADSC 3X03 Lecture 12: Lecture #12_ Case Series & Cross-Sectional Surveys

22 views2 pages

Document Summary

A case series describes a group of individuals with the same disease or who have undergone the same procedure. Trying to share the info so that: ppl who see other patients with the disease can gain knowledge about the disease/procedure. If you only see 1 or 2 patients in your practice & someone else only sees 1 or 2, you don"t have a deep understanding of the disease/procedure. Question: characteristics - what is the natural history (what happens to someone with the condition if there are no interventions done); if you do an intervention, a description about how patient"s react to the procedure. Population: patients who have the condition/disease or are undergoing the procedure. Resources: supply of cases/patients who have the condition/undergoing the procedure. Why, how is not applicable because we aren"t looking at the cause or how the disease is spreading- not appropriate in terms of case series. As with all research, ethical approval is required.
