MEDRADSC 3L03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Aspiration Pneumonia, Radiodensity, Artificial Cardiac Pacemaker
Document Summary
A branch of medicine and social science that focuses on the care of older adults. Gerontology is the study of diseases and illnesses associated with aging adults. Radiographers need to be aware of some changes: These are changes associated with aging, we need to accommodate for this but we also can"t assume that all elderly patients have a cognitive impairment, disability, or disease. We need to provide clear communication to the patient, the family members, or caregivers this will ensure that a proper history is acquired. If the patient has trouble hearing: move closer to the patient and speak in a lower tone. Minimize background noise that may make it difficult for the patient to hear you. Say instructions one at a time and allow them time to respond. Modify procedures to provide appropriate, age-specific patient care. Some changes are reduced bone mass, joint flexibility, and muscle strength. Patients may feel dizzy or unstable as they stand or sit up.
