Treat skin cancers and other superficial tumours. Provides geometries similar to those found on treatment machines. Allow the outlining of the tumour and a small volume of surrounding tissue to be documented and stored on a radiograph or digitally reconstructed radiograph (drr) Requires a computer with sufficient amounts of microprocessor speed and computer memory that can handle large quantities of data. A collimated x-ray beam is directed at the patient. Detector"s response is transmitted to a computer, the computer analyzes the signal and reconstructs the iamge. Better definition of detail and image resolution. High speed electrons colliding with anode, enclosed in a glass envelope. Produces electrons and focus the electron stream toward metal anode. Heated up with current, electrons boil off and are emitted from the filament. Dual filaments --> permitting the selection of a large or small source of electrons. Length and width control the ability of x-rays tube to produce fine imaging detail.
