B = bone density includes the evaluation of: Good bone density = bony trabeculae is seen. Poor bone density = no bony trabeculae seen (ie osteoporosis) Ie. smudged & indistinct trabeculae (no trabecular pattern) are a characteristic of osteomalacia or. Ie. coarsening trabeculae (see more contrast b/n trabecular patterns & spaces found b/n but fewer # of patterns) & osteopenia is seen in patients w chronic renal failure. Ie. lacey delicate appearance of trabeculae is secondary to thalassemia & cooley"s anemia. Anytime body has a defect, the body tries to respond (extra bony deposition); can tell if the fracture is new or old. Reparative phase; laying down bone in attempt for repair (for fractures, infection)
