Light field or ir 5 cm distal to knee joint (1. 25 cm below the distal part of the apex of patella) Knee in true ap position; internally rotate 3-5 degrees. Overlap w marker for image #2; could miss a fracture; need 2 inches of overlap. Place marker on the lateral aspect of femur, at the top of the light field. Top of ir or light field at level of asis. Cr perpen to ir, 2. 5-5 cm distal to mid-femoral neck. Femoral neck 3-5 cm medial & 8-10 cm distal to asis. True ap = internally rotate leg 15-20 degrees (be careful where & when you place the sandbag to support the foot)
