The end goal of communication is understanding and to complete primary and secondary goals. Primary goals: proximal to the purpose of the specific patient professional interaction; ie. gather information, make decisions, informed consent; ie. physically (get a gown on) Secondary goals: bi-product of effect communication; ie. reduced anxiety as a result of interaction. Enabling: elements that affect the ability to achieve primary goals; building a trusting relationship.
