MEDRADSC 1B03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 17: Endometriosis Of Ovary, Endometriosis, Laparotomy
Document Summary
Endocervical canal is marked by 2 openings: external os & internal os (where it transfers into cervix) Have a transition of cell type b/n vagina & uterus. Change in the transformation zone; squamous to columnar w in the endocervical canal. Whenever you have a cell that is differentiating, there is a chance for cancer formation; transition area is a common area for cervical carcinoma. 3 layers: perimetrium, myometrium, endometrium (functional layer: responds to hormones during menstrual cycle) Uterus is always sitting anteverted (tipped forward); will get pushed up when bladder gets full, will push on bladder when woman is pregnant. Ligaments are used to help hold uterus in place. Ovaries extend medial-laterally; not in a rigid position, float around in peritoneal cavity but are still attached to ligaments. Presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterus (ovaries, ligaments, colon, lungs, etc); getting adhesions; points of fixation that are not supposed to be there; leads to other complications.
