LIFESCI 2D03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Ethogram, Scientific Method, Dont
Document Summary
Chapter 1 checkpoints that have been checked are 1, 2 & 4. Science is formalized - means we all use the same lens/ we all use the same framework. We always begin with an observation - we dont begin with a hypothesis for the scientific method (observation -> question -> hypothesis) In ethograms, you have to be very specific. B/c we all need to use the same language (in the scientific world). Intrauterine phenomenon/effect -- occurs in mammals like mice/rats; ones that are litter bearing (more than one offspring produced). The intrauterine evt for a female is very different than her sibling. When you have male siblings situated beside the female, they share blood. Within that blood flow, males produce testosterone and it"s shared. The females that reach earliest sexual maturity are the ones sitting between two females. We assess sexual maturity behaviourally thru an ethogram. Sexual maturity - body is now prepared for pregnancy.
