Document Summary
Connecting work and class to the experience of gender inequality. Patriarchy means the rule of the father used by sociologist max weber to describe household organization in which the father dominated and extended network, kindship and controlled production of the household. Also used to denote systems of process of the oppression of women. But a critique to this is that we need to talk about sexuality (smith reading) We have to understand the domination and the oppression of women in the context of the privileging of heterosexuality. When we look at the modern system of sexuality, it"s really rooted in the heterosexual family and so the dominance of women is connected to heterosexism based on this. Example; looking at the nation state (nationalism) makes reference to the sanctity of the family unit. Sometimes patriarchy and hetero-patriarchy are tied as ahistorical truths. We give it feature of being natural and as something that is internal.
