Thesis of the shock doctrine is that we"ve been sold a fantasy about how this system will regulate things. When a crisis occurs people are willing to make rash decisions. Chile: invested in health and public well-being for quite some time, and businesses feared that this would result in economic hardship. Chile sent some of their students to the university of chicago to study free market economics with milton freeman. With the support of the us, everything went to hell as chile supported free- market economics (had a war)
