Document Summary

Key concepts: alienation from the product, process, ourselves, others, taylorism, positive and negative freedom, hegemony, fordism. Alienation and hegemony can be linked back to karl marx and antonio gramchie. Alienation; refers to a process or condition of estrangement or separation. Marx was thinking about questions like what makes a meaningful or fulfilling life. He viewed how capitalism was a barrier/alienating in allowing people to find fulfillment and meaningfulness in their lives. Marx argued that workers become disconnected from the products they make, the process, from yourself, and others. Fancy furniture designer can exist under capitalism but it"s rare. Mostly we have mass production of goods since it"s cheaper and you end up giving control over to the owner. Alienation from the product; instead of creating a product that we own, we create something that belongs to someone else. We experience a lack of connection from the product even though we made it.
