Cold war: purges of communists, limits on dissent. The canadian labor congress (clc) (cid:3) (cid:3) (cid:3) (cid:3) (cid:3) Impact of war: new roles and opportunities, new images and propaganda, persistence of traditional views. Distinct challenges: labour movement had their efforts being payed off, growth will cure a lot of other problems. Cold war was a struggle between usa and soviet union & communists: 2 different models for the world, capitalist side vs workers revolution side. After war there is a very polarized world, 2 sides. Activity in unions is decreased and therefore decreased activity of the labour movement. 1950"s: economy is good: start to find new roles & opportunities, role for women expands, new work, new opportunities, women were needed for the war, viewed as: Physically challenged for some kinds of work: actual reason women came into workforce: there was nobody else to turn to, it was a labour shortage.
