It went so far that the act saw an imbalance when it came to ending a contract. If the master broke the act, the servant could sue the master but in the reverse case the master could not sue the servant because they did not have money. Instead the master could have them fined or but in jail and they could have a tarnished record for the rest of their lives. If the worker didn"t work hard enough they could be reported to the police but this did not happen that often in canada.
