Immigrants settled the land and factories needed workers as they were growing. Factories and growing economy needed consumer market so, immigrants meant more people to be consumers. National policy important because when laurier took over, it was still dominant policy. It was hard to farm in prairies and the depression was taking its toll. When the laurier boom happened, the numbers of immigration went back up. It picked up because the economy picked up and most of the immigrants were settlers of farms. Settlers people (immigrants) came to settle in the west where there was a lot of successful work. The cast majority of settler immigrants were single men and some families with children. Skilled workers they came over, already had skills and places like britain and germany had very skilled people. Unskilled workers immigrants were the unskilled workers who were brought into canada to do unskilled work: hardships and insecurity the unskilled workers had a struggle to survive.
