Fetal period is 3 phases: zygote is 2 weeks, embryonic is 6 weeks, fetal is 32 weeks. How things change over 40 weeks: molecular, biochemical, biophysical, structural, funcional. Any problems with the fetus, and any impacts can cause issues at the birthing process. Complex, precise (deined) sequence of events (40 weeks) Driven by gene expression/ repression, transcripion protein synthesis, process of geneics to determine what type of cell it will become. Geneics determine the path of which cells become what. Gender difereniaion: begins at ferilizaion, each egg has a single x chromosome, sperm has x or y chromosome, xx: geneic female xy: geneic male. 6-week gestaion: primiive gonad can develop into female or male. At 2 months the head is about 50% of length, but adulthood its 1/7 of length. Idenical = monozygoic twins (1/3: ovum divides post ferilizaion, twi idenical zygotes, perfect copies of each other/ same gender.
