Kinesiology 3u03: brief review growth, maturation, and. Growth, maturation and development play a role in the process between birth and adulthood. Key: growth, maturation and development is extremely variable, no clear picture where we can say everyone goes through a process at the same time. Some other variables include: pa growth can affect pa, and pa can affect growth, performance. Spans first 2 decades of life includes prenatal period: increased body size, increase in specific body parts (segments, taller, heavier, increases in lean tissue (muscle), adiposity (body fat%), organ size. Hormones can cause rapid periods of growth. Boys & girls grow in height similarly till adolescent growth spurt. Why is there 13 cm diff on average between girls height and boys height at the young adults stage boys grow longer at a slower rate, boys have a higher peak/growth spurt. Maturation is a process occurs in all tissues, organs, and organ systems. Cannot measure maturation but you can measure maturity.
