KINESIOL 3Q03 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Asymmetrical Tonic Neck Reflex, Plantar Reflex, Palmar Grasp Reflex
Document Summary
Cognitive development is important for execution of movements. Increasing hierarchy of abilities - deals with is as cns develops. As midbrain develops, primitive movements are inhibited, more complicated movements start to develop. Complex movements like equilibrium reactions develop with cerebral cortex. Lower order reflexive controls start to get superseded by other structures. As the brain develops, reflexive control is superseded by higher-level neuroanatomical structures. Recent evidence suggest that movement also affects brain development (interaction is key) Brain doesn"t just affect movement, movements feed back to help brain develop. Constant to way, bidirectional interaction between cortical interaction, cognitive development, and physiological movement development. This helps to explain movements that had not erally been considered by earlier researchers: those that appear to occur completely random. Mo b/c relex must be casued by external stim. They occur in absence of any apparent stim (or for an apparent reason)
