The connecting cell processes of osteoblasts have become little tunnels between our osteocyte cells - called tunnels. Without these little tunnels we"d have no nutrients. Unlike cartilage where the blast cells are still secreting matrix, our osteoblasts are just stuck in the matrix. Large multi-nuclear cells - a bunch of cells have fused together, you get a monster cell. Monocytes - white blood cells that are white blood cells. Osteoclasts sit outside of the bone, not active all the time. When active, creates connection with surface of the bone. Once this connection is created, the side that is in contact with the bone becomes ruffled. Releases acid that break down the inorganic component bone minerals) and enzymes that break down the organic component of bone (protein) Can kill osteocytes, not really the osteoblast cells. Clast cells break parts of bone, osteoblasts rebuild the bone back. These processes change if we"re doing exercise, not eating enough.
