Respiratory centre - helps mo with resp. Pontine nuclei - communication between cerebrum and cerebellum. Sc --> bs --> cerebrum --> cerebellum. Contains the cerebral aqueduct (passage for 3rd to 4th ventricle) Communication with other regions through cerebral peduncles. Outer layer - gray matter - folds - folia - cerebellar cortex. Not a part of the hemispheres, balance (visual, tactile, inner ear info) Diencephalon - between the brainstem and the cerebrum. Thalamus - the largest part, surround by third ventricle, lateral portions connected by interthalamic adhesion. Relay sensory station (everything except smell goes to cerebral cortex) Anterior - medial geniculate nucleus - auditory information. Posterior - lateral geniculate nucleus - visual information. Infundibulum connects to the pituitary gland (connects the ns to the es) Mood, emotion, digestion - why emotion affects our food choice. Epithalamus - posterior + superior to thalamus. Contains the habenula - emotional + visceral response to odour. Pineal gland (inferior) - melatonin - puberty, sleep.
