Social factors impede our ability to go with what we really want to choose. Social pressures can influence us into using drugs when that might not be what we really want to do or what we know is the best thing for us. Drug experimentation can begin and occur around grade 7 and into high school. Addiction is most likely to begin in high school as a consequence of social learning. Mix between fully formed adult body and not the mental capacity of an adult. Social pressure is a huge factor to want to be included in social groups. Teens model health compromising behaviours promoted by the media, their parents, and most importantly their peers. Brain is not fully developed until ~ 25 years old. Prefrontal cortex involved in planning and judgement is not fully developed: the last thing to develop.
