Document Summary

This connecion is a criical connecion in our feelings of reward and pleasure. Our brain and body deal with things that acivate the body/system. Cocaine: blocks the transporter, so the dopamine remains in the synapse for longer, accumulates to a great amount so you have this intense pleasurable feeling which we are not designed to handle. Dopamine receptors decrease with chronic drug abuse as a homeostaic response. The way the body responds is in the receptors. When it binds, it creates an acivaion. Cocaine: so much dopamine, body adapts by reducing the amount of receptors on the post-synapic cell. Over ime there is a signiicant decline in receptors. Accumulaion of dopamine where the cell is too acive and reduces receptors. Cocaine blocks the reuptake of dopamine into the cell. The brain of addicts have fewer dopamine receptors. When comparing the brain of cocaine addict and obese person, they are similar, they have fewer dopamine receptors.
