Document Summary
Body mass index (bmi) = weight (kg)/ height (m)^2. The amount of people with obesity coninues to grow, greater that the number of underweight people. The food available to us is designed to make us want more. Obesity is an inbalance between consumpion and burning of calories. The inbalance leads to excessive weight gain, consuming more energy dense food. Went on a 40 day diet of 550cal/day. Most obese people re-gain the weight loss during successful dieing. Group 1: the diet worked to reduce the weight, 14 years later they were back to where they started (19 people) Group 2: maintained the weight loss (5 people) Group 3: went over their original weight (3 people) Calorie restricion in short term may work to reduce working but in long term, it doesn"t work. They regain the weight to their pre-diet weight. A bypass that goes right into the intesines, bypasses the stomach.
