Document Summary

Pelvis: ring of bones made up of ilium, ischium, pubis, sacrum etc entire pelvis wraps around. Within the pelvis are two hip joints - junction btwn head of femur articulating with acetabulum. Pelvis and hip are not the same thing. Ilium + ischium + pubis in front innominate bone. Acetabulum lunar shaped; thick cartilage at the top: acts like a roof sitting over the top of femur to transmit loads back and forth from leg to trunk during weight bearing. Fovea capitis is a divot in the femoral head point of enry / attachment for ligamentum teres. Angle of inclination is between the two lines on the medial side: two lines: one bisects femoral neck in half along its long axis, one"s along shaft of femur, change of angle = change of knee position. Doesn"t directly stabilize femur into acetabulum it just forms a hammock: functions: Increases amount of contact area btwn acetabulum and femur.
