Document Summary
Stages in the development of a nutrient deficiency. Just because one thing is associated with another, doesn"t mean it causes it. Use glucose for exercise, for atp production, in the brain etc. Insulin is a hormone released from the pancreas, glucose will stimulate insulin to store in the tissues. Diabetes: inability of insulin to dispose of glucose. High levels of glucose toxic to the system. Physical inactivity for 1-2 weeks causes insulin and glucose levels to increase. Main message, in line with other reliable sources. Lower energy required in the forward and reverse reactions. Key (substrate), lock (enzyme): the substrate fits into the enzyme (lock-key complex) The body begins to absorb nutrients 15 minutes-4 hours after a person has eaten. Depends on what kind of foods the meal contains. The more fats in the meal, the longer it stays in the stomach. Water is fastest thing to empty in the stomach. Majority of absorption takes place in small intestine.
